Bus Stop information on Road Works Register

The Scottish Road Works Commissioner has been working with stakeholders to try to improve road works co-ordination in relation to bus operations.

The work identified that the Scottish Road Works Register, the tool used by roads authorities and utilities to plan and co-ordinate works, could be improved with the addition of information on bus routes.

As a first step, information on bus stops has now been added to the register and this will give a visual indication that a route is likely to have buses running on it.

Kevin Hamilton, Scottish Road Works Commissioner said:

“This is a small improvement to the register that was easy and quick to implement. Hopefully it will provide those involved in planning road works additional information which they can use to help minimise the impact on bus services.  I look forward to continuing to work with stakeholders to identify further actions to improve the operation of bus services in Scotland.”

Note to Editors

The Scottish Road Works Register is a national computerised database system for the electronic transfer, retention and management of road works data. It is used by road works authorities and utility companies to use to assist them in the planning and coordination of works on Scottish roads.

Road works authorities have a legal duty under Section 118 of the New Roads and Street Works Act to co-ordinate works so as to minimise the inconvenience to persons using the road.
