Angus Carmichael appointed as Scottish Road Works Commissioner

Angus Carmichael has been appointed as Scottish Road Works Commissioner on an interim basis.

Currently Service Manager with Fife Council, Mr Carmichael is a Chartered Civil Engineer with some 40 years of experience.  He is an active figure in the road works community in Scotland and is currently co-chair of the Road Authority and Utilities Committee (Scotland).

The appointment was announced today by Derek Mackay, Minister for Transport and Islands. At the same time, the Minister also announced an independent review of the Office and functions of the Commissioner’s role.

Angus Carmichael took up the post of Scottish Road Works Commissioner in September 2015 and has over 40 years experience in this sector.

The post of Commissioner was established under the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005 to improve the planning, co-ordination and quality of road works throughout Scotland. The Commissioner monitors performance and promotes good practice across both utility companies and roads authorities (Councils for local roads and Transport Scotland for the trunk road network).
