Training

A suite of courses are made available on the following subjects; Introduction to SRWR for Roads Authorities, Introduction to SRWR for Promoters, SRWR Advance Noticing, SRWR for Inspectors, SRWR for Fixed Penalty Notices and SRWR Permits & Consents Workshop.

These courses are arranged to be held quarterly. When courses are available for booking details will be shown on our news page; https://roadworks.scot/news. Please note the prerequisites specified within the Course Definition, which are essential for delegates to derive maximum benefit from the training.

Both the introductory workshops explain how to submit new works notices and their status updates in line with current regulations and recommendations. The SRWR for Promoters workshop is also appropriate for new Roads Authority users who are only concerned with recording and updating works through their life cycle. The SRWR for Roads Authority course additionally covers the role of Roads Authorities in monitoring and coordinating works.

The specialised course SRWR for Advanced Noticing will clarify the rules and procedures surrounding some of the more complex  aspects of works  noticing and illustrate how they are implemented on the Scottish Road Works Register using Symology’s Insight. The course is intended for Roads Authorities and Statutory Undertakers and is applicable to those who have previously attended the introductory course and require specific instruction on the operation of Advanced Notices. This workshop is not suitable for new users.

The specialised course SRWR for Inspectors concentrates on the procedures described in the Inspections Code of Practice, explaining how they are put into practice in Symology’s Insight software of the Scottish Road Works Register. The course would be of interest to inspectors and to administrators who record inspection information on the register. The objectives of the course are; to explain the inspection rules and procedures in the Inspections Code of Practice; to explain how inspections are queued, recorded, and notified in the SRWR; how to create inspector’s patches (areas of interest) to more effectively use SRWR enquiry screens; how to monitor promoter’s responses to inspection failures; and how the SRWR can be used to produce reports on charges for inspections done.

The specialised course SRWR for Fixed Penalty Notices will clarify the rules and procedures regarding fixed penalty noticing and illustrate how they are implemented on the Scottish Road Works Register using Symology’s Insight. The course is intended for Roads Authorities and Statutory Undertakers and is applicable to those who have previously attended the introductory course and require specific instruction on the operation of Fixed Penalty Notices. This workshop is not suitable for new users.

The SRWR Permits & Consents Workshop provides an understanding of how to use the Licences module for all requirements, including Skip/Scaffolding permits, Works Under Licence, Parades, other Non-works Disruptions, and Diversion routes. The course explains the automated interface with the SRWR, and highlights ways of fulfilling SRWR objectives with the potential of large savings in administrative effort. Please note the prerequisites specified within the Course Definition, which are essential for delegates to derive maximum benefit from the training. The workshop is applicable for Roads Authority users who are already familiar with the SRWR and require specific instruction on how to make best use of the Permits & Consents module.

Training will take place in Symology's offices at Glenbervie Business Centre, Glenbervie Business Park, Larbert FK5 4RB. There will be a charge of £300 payable to the Scottish Road Works Commissioner (note this charge is outwith the scope of VAT) per delegate for these courses.

If you do not have a credit agreement in place please contact the Commissioner’s office on 0131 244 9936, or by email to enquiries@roadworks.scot in advance of making a booking.
