On behalf of the devolved nations, the Department for Transport (DfT) is seeking views on proposed changes to Safety at Street Works and Road Works: A Code of Practice (the Red Book).
The Red Book covers the whole of the United Kingdom (including Scotland) and provides statutory guidance on the signing, lighting and guarding of road works. It was last updated in 2013. It is applicable to both undertakers (public utilities) and roads authorities (councils for local roads/Transport Scotland for trunk roads).
